Subject : INSULINDE CHALLENGE AQUASPORTS PENTATHLON 2011 Each and every year INSULINDE CHALLENGE, a non-profit organisation, hosts an event which involves a minimum of 100 young Antilleans in a Challenge which draws upon their resourcefulness, motivation, spirit and enthusiasm.   These Challenges commenced in 2005 with our first AQUASPORTS TRIATHLON held at Asiento Yacht Club which involved 5 teams of 20 members per team competing in swimming, kayaking and sailing tournaments. This first AQUASPORTS TRIATHLON also attracted 250 spectators, stretched the competitors to their limits and was an enormous success. The AQUASPORTS TRIATHLONS were repeated in 2006 and 2007 and hosted by PRO-SAIL at their Marina in Spanish Water.    In 2005 and 2008 INSULINDE CHALLENGE hosted KLEIN CURACAO KLEEN-UP CHALLENGES involving 160 young people intent on restoring our lovely little sister island to its original pristine condition. These challenges were remarkably successful in terms of our aims to educate the youth of Curacao, to heighten their awareness of ecological balance and the environment in which they live , and to do it in a fun fashion. We certainly succeeded and look forward to a repeat performance next year!   In 2005 INSULINDE CHALLENGE organized the KLEIN CURACAO BEACH HOUSE construction project together with the Curacao Government and many enthusiastic corporate and private sponsors. The result was 5 beautiful beach houses designed, pre-fabricated on Curacao and constructed on Klein Curacao with love and dedication by young Antillians. What a project! What a result! EVERYONE can enjoy our efforts for many years to come ........   This year INSULINDE CHALLENGE will host our fifth AQUASPORTS PENTATHLON, this time involving 8 teams of 12 members per team and hosted by Mgr. VERRIET ZEEVERKENNERS at their base in Spanish Water on Sunday , 27 February 2011 . This year's AQUASPORTS PENTATHLON will feature sailing, swimming and kayaking relay races occurring simultaneously plus a road relay race , line-balling and of course the Tug O' War ! A team manager's nightmare, organized chaos and so much fun! Why not build your own team ? Phil   560-1340 www.insulinde.com / sail@insulinde.com    nsulinde Challenges Klein Curacao Kleen Up - 2008 This year the Insulinde Challenge Foundation involved 150 children from the Sea Scouts and Land Scouts in a clean-up action at Curacao's little sister 'Klein Curacao'! The third weekend of September, Sailing Ship Insulinde and MV Zeelandia set out early Saturday morning with the children to the island. A lot of garbage that is drifting in sea eventually ends up on the East shore of the island. To create awareness in the children on what happens to junk when you do not dispose of it properly and to clean up this unique plot of nature the children were challenged to fill as many bags as possible. They worked in teams to win the 10, 12 and 20 full garbage bags competition, but also competed in fun games. There was a GPS-guided treasure hunt by Geocaching Curacao, tug-a-war and a very creative beach mascotte competition. Aquasports Triathlon - 2009 This year once again the Insulinde Challenge Foundation will organize an Aquasports Triathlon. This time the new head-quarters of the Sea Scouts will be used as the nerve center of the crazy Insulinde Triathlon Challenge. The kids will be simultaneously competing in swimming, sea kayak and sailing races in a fun activity packed day. Klein Curaçao Beach Shade Challenge - 2005 In 2005 the sea scouts and land scouts took on a very special challenge at Klein Curacao. Create a little oasis of shade on this little piece of land in the middle of the ocean. The island only has some small bushes and undergrowth, so it does not provide any natural shade at all! Five teams prepared for weeks to make the most creative and functional design for the beach shades that needed to be durable and able to withstand the strong trade winds. After the foundation beams had been set in concrete the teams got to building their beach palaces. The palapas were finished with palm leave roofs. After just two days of hard work, the shades were ready for use! The Insulinde Challenge Foundation was proud to present this new settlement, appropriately named 'Pueblo de Sombre'. The village still stands and provides comfortable shelter every week to visiting tourists and locals.
